Terrazzo: a flooring material consisting of granite or marble chips set in concrete and polished to give a smooth surface.
We once worked on a swimming pool project where terrazzo was called for.
Correctly laid, terrazzo is extremely waterproof.
Although labour intensive, in much the same way as sandwash, It can be a more economical solution to other kinds of flooring because washed, graded grit (aggregate) is cheap. The granite aggregate supplied for driveways or for making concrete is a mix of colours ranging from dark grey to white quartz. using different grades (sizes of chips), and pigmented cement, interesting patterns can be made, again much in the same way as sandwash.
A major expense could be the hire of a grinder.
